AIG Professional Development
Since the 2010-2011 school year, the AIG program in Onslow County Schools has sought to support classroom teacher as they seek AIG licensure or a local certificate.
Standard 3D of the NC AIG Program Standards states, "The LEA recruits and retains highly qualified professionals and provides relevant and effective professional development concerning the needs of gifted learners that is on-going and comprehensive. The LEA places AIG students in classrooms with teachers who have met the LEA’s professional development requirements for that position or have earned an AIG add-on license."
AIG leadership has created content and role specific professional development which will support teachers in earning micro-credentials or badges. These micro-credentials or badges are a reflection that the teacher is enhancing his or her teaching skill set in order to meet the needs of gifted learners.
In order to obtain an AIG license which is transferable outside of Onslow County, a teacher must take courses from an approved university. Each year since 2010, AIG has funded teachers to obtain this licensure. More information can be obtained through the NC DPI website.
Onslow County Schools AIG licensure information is also found in the drop-down menus under the AIG Licensure and Professional Development tab.
